Grapevine salt tolerance

چکیده

Salinity, which is predominantly an issue for agricultural systems in arid and semi-arid regions, has the potential to impair grape production wine quality, its impact on industries predicted increase with climate change. Research physiological molecular changes that occur salt-affected vines unveiled complex osmotic ionic responses include oxidative stress, water loss, photoinhibition, growth inhibition necrosis. Proposed salt tolerance mechanisms elevated antioxidant production, hydric regulation exclusion from shoots berries. These later of these found certain Vitis genotypes that, when grafted as rootstocks, can protect fruit-bearing scions accumulating significant amounts saline ions soils, most notably through presence specific transport proteins are involved regulating transfer root shoot via xylem. Significant gaps knowledge remain, however, regarding species, many inferred other species or documented only at level gene expression. A better understanding confer needed improve new germplasm locally adapted suited challenges a changing climate. Hence, this review covers current characteristics associated damage grapevine cultivars rootstocks highlights possible future avenues will enable development options industry combat salinity.

Salt tolerance.

Studying salt stress is an important means to the understanding of plant ion homeostasis and osmo-balance. Salt stress research also benefits agriculture because soil salinity significantly limits plant productivity on agricultural lands. Decades of physiological and molecular studies have generated a large body of literature regarding potential salt tolerance determinants. Recent advances in a...

Evaluating wild grapevine tolerance to copper toxicity.

We evaluate copper tolerance and accumulation in Vitis vinifera ssp. sylvestris in populations from a copper contaminated site and an uncontaminated site, and in the grapevine rootstock "41B", investigating the effects of copper (0-23 mM) on growth, photosynthetic performance and mineral nutrient content. The highest Cu treatment induced nutrient imbalances and inhibited photosynthetic function...

Salt Tolerance and Salt Poisoning of Swine

COMMON SALT is recognized as one of the chemical substances required in the diet of animals; hence it is good husbandry to include a supply in the rations of livestock. The quantitative requirements vary with the species. Those for swine are regarded as among the lowest. That excessive aniounts may be harmful to the extent of being toxic is not at all surprising, since there are recognized limi...

Plant salt-tolerance mechanisms.

Crop performance is severely affected by high salt concentrations in soils. To engineer more salt-tolerant plants it is crucial to unravel the key components of the plant salt-tolerance network. Here we review our understanding of the core salt-tolerance mechanisms in plants. Recent studies have shown that stress sensing and signaling components can play important roles in regulating the plant ...
